Privacy Policy in Summary

At the GO Open Data Association (GOOD), we know protecting your privacy is an important element in building and keeping your trust. When you surf our website this is considered an interaction and here is how we use and safeguard your information.*

Personal information

In this Privacy Policy, the term "personal information" is information about an identifiable individual. When you visit www.go-opendata.ca , we collect only the personal information you voluntarily provide to us. We use cookies on the website to optimize your experience. Although most Internet browsers automatically accept cookies, you can change your settings or use third party tools to prompt you before accepting cookies and similar technologies, or to refuse them altogether. We use web analytics tools to view anonymized usage data such as site visits and time spent on pages. These services may use cookies or other web technologies to collect usage information, matched to an IP address, to help us analyze how our users use our site. These outside services may also collect information about your use of other websites over time. Since we do not link any personal information that you provide to us to the information kept within third party analytics software, this additional information is only analyzed in a way that cannot identify you.

Privacy Policy

GO Open Data Association (GOOD) is committed to ensuring the privacy of all our users. When you visit GOOD’s ’s website including all information and materials contained on it, we might collect information about you. So we have developed this privacy policy to help you understand how we collect and use any information about you. This policy governs all pages on the GOOD Website. It does not apply to pages hosted by other organizations, or other third party sites.

Please read this policy carefully. By continuing to use our site, you agree to the use of your personal information by GOOD as explained in this policy.

Purpose of policy

We are committed to protecting your personal information and being transparent about what information we hold about you.

What We Collect

Our sites may be used without entering personal information. However, GOOD website offers you the opportunity to subscribe to our newsletter or to join GOOD as a member or to register for an event. When you subscribe to our newsletter, we require a valid email address. When you request membership in the GOOD Association, we will ask for information that personally identifies you. This information will include your name, title, organization, and email address. This information will be provided to the system coordinators so they can create your account. 

For event registration, your name, organization and email is required.  Payment information associated with event payment is not held by GOOD nor the payment application (Stripe) which only uses the information for transaction approval. 

GOOD collects and processes your personal information only with your consent.  Individuals can always refuse to supply personal information or withdraw their previously-given consent to process such information, with the caveat that doing so may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities for which their personal information is necessary.

Cookies

Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your web browser (if you allow) that enables the sites or service providers systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information. We use cookies to compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interaction so that we can offer better site experiences and tools in the future. We may contract with third-party service providers to assist us in better understanding our site visitors. These service providers are not permitted to use the information collected on our behalf except to help us conduct and improve our website.

Disclosure of Information to Outside Parties

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information. This does not include trusted third parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release your information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others rights, property, or safety. However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for traffic and site performance analysis, or other uses.

Controlling Your Personal Information

Under applicable data protection, you have a right to request access to, update, remove and restrict the processing of your personal data. Please request these changes or deletions by emailing connect@go-opendata.ca 

Your Email Address and Password:

You are responsible for keeping the security of your membership password at all times. We recommend using a strong password that you do not share with other services.

If you believe the security of your account has been compromised, please change your password immediately. You can also contact us for assistance.

You are responsible for ensuring the email address associated with your account is accurate. We use that email to contact you about service updates, changes to our policies, and account activities. We are not responsible for personal data transmitted to a third party as a result of a user providing an incorrect email address.

Deletion of Account:

If you want to delete your personal information and your account, please contact us with your request. We will take steps to delete your information as soon as we can, but some information may remain in archived/backup copies for your records or as otherwise required by law. 

Social Media and Commenting

If you submit comments or other content – including information about yourself that is displayed in your public profile within an online community –  to our GOOD website (or other GOOD social media accounts such as twitter) you should be aware that the information can be read and used by others. This may result in unsolicited messages from other posters or parties. We make no representations and undertake no obligations as to the security or use of information you voluntarily include when submitting content.

Third-Party Links

We or site contributors may post third party links on the website. These third party sites have separate and independent privacy policies. We therefore have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites. Nonetheless, we seek to protect the integrity of our site and welcome any feedback about these sites.

Consent

By using our site, you consent to Terms of Use posted on our website.

By Law

We reserve the right to disclose any personal information as needed if such information is requested by law enforcement agencies or if we are required to do so by law, regulation, subpoena, court order or by a government entity.

We may also disclose personal information to third parties if we have reason to believe that disclosing such information is necessary to conduct investigations of possible breaches of law or legal rights, to cooperate in any legal investigation or to identify, contact, or bring legal action against someone who may be violating the terms of use of our site or any other terms applicable to any activity or feature of our site.

Our Privacy Policy is regularly reviewed to make sure we continue to serve the privacy interests of our members and subscribers. If our information practices change materially, we will notify you of these policy changes.

Your consent to the terms of this Privacy Policy

By using this website, you will have agreed to our Privacy Policy. We have the right to change our Privacy Policy at any time. If there are any changes to this Privacy Policy, they will be posted on the site. Any changes will be effective thirty days after their initial posting.  If you do not agree with any of the terms of the Privacy Policy, as it may be amended from time to time, you have the recourse to not use this website at all and are under no obligation to submit any personally identifiable information to us here, and you may request us to erase your personal information.
