Mai Phan
(She/Her) Manager of Research, Anti-Racism Policy Unit

Dr. Mai Phan is an equity, human rights and data expert practitioner who is passionate about data equity, social justice, and designing systems for a better world. She has over 20 years of experience teaching, researching, developing and leading initiatives to address systemic barriers and promote inclusive practices and policies in public sector organizations. Her interests are in all things data-related, including questioning and exploring our practices of imagining, collecting, governing, using and sharing data that are consistent with our values to promote collective and individual wellbeing and empowerment.
Mai is currently research manager in the Anti-Racism Unit at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to lead their commitment to addressing systemic racism through collecting, analysing ad reporting race-based data. In this role, she is also supporting and contributing to federal initiatives for community and stakeholder-informed data capacities.
Jutta Treviranus
Director and Professor, Inclusive Design Research Centre

Jutta Treviranus is the Director of the Inclusive Design Research Centre (IDRC) and professor in the faculty of Design at OCAD University in Toronto. Jutta established the IDRC in 1993 as the nexus of a growing global community that proactively works to ensure that our digitally transformed and globally connected society is designed inclusively. Dr. Treviranus also founded an innovative graduate program in inclusive design at OCAD University. Jutta is credited with developing an inclusive design methodology that has been adopted by large enterprise companies, governments, and public sector organizations internationally.
Blair Attard-Frost
(They/Them) PhD Candidate, Faculty of Information
University of Toronto
Blair is a PhD Candidate at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information. Their research investigates the ethics and governance of artificial intelligence through an interdisciplinary lens, combining perspectives from service science, cognitive science, public policy, and queer studies. Prior to beginning their PhD research, Blair worked on a variety of digital transformation and information management projects in public sector, post-secondary, and startup environments, including ResearchAI, Toronto Metropolitan University, and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks.
Keith McDonald, Moderator
Keith McDonald’s degree is in Communications with a long career converting complex issues into understandable and actionable information bytes. A mentored Presentation Specialist & Speaker Coach, Keith’s early background in teaching revealed a delightful talent for entertaining while encouraging critical thinking and inspiring others to adapt to change. He’s worked with TVOntario, Centennial College, the City of Toronto, the GO Open Data Association (as our past Director of Communications), Green Peace, UNICEF, the Toronto Public Library and many other private businesses. He founded "the literacy AI project" in 2018 to curate, unpack, ponder and teach about Artificial Intelligence issues for non-practitioner audiences including parents, teachers, students and seniors.
